2016 Festival Chairman, Kathy Carraway
Dear Festival Friends,
Welcome to the 39th Annual Suffolk Peanut Fest! We’re expecting four days of “Mud-slingin’,
Nut-crackin’ Good Times!”
When I became involved with Suffolk Peanut Fest 16+ years ago, I had no idea that one day I would hold the position of Festival Chairman. Throughout my time with the festival, I’ve watched it grow and change and evolve into the fantastic community event that it is today. I’m always amazed by the incredible dedication of the festival’s volunteers who give so much of their time and energy to produce such a quality event.
My eldest child was a toddler when I found myself volunteering with Senior Bingo and providing hospitality services for our participants. That little girl is now an adultand her younger sister is not far behind. Much like raising a family, Suffolk Peanut Fest has endured its share of growing pains, unparalleled pride, joy and challenges but ultimately it has persevered. 2016 has presented us with some of those aforementioned challenges. In the year since the last festival, we have researched, planned and collaborated, to add even bigger name entertainers, a new motorsports event, a revamped demolition derby, vintage market day, and more. We’ve partnered with the Virginia Festival of Flight to offer two festivals for the price of one. Festival goers can get up close to many types of aircraft flying in for Saturday. Some of them are home-built show planes, some restored classics, ultralights, older military and many factory-built airplanes. Of course, if you prefer your feet planted firmly on the ground, we have a different kind of “wings” for you with our mouth-scorching hot wing eating contests.
As much as we like to add new and unexpected features, we’re dedicated to keeping the beloved festival mainstays like the full carnival,
amazing fireworks display, The Rad Hatter, Gospel Showcase, Chalk Art Competition, pony rides, Silent Disco and everybody’s favorite Peanut Butter Sculpting Contest. Of course, a little piece of my heart will always belong to Senior Bingo, where my Suffolk Peanut Fest journey began.
So, please grab your family and prepare for a weekend of fun and excitement, funnel cakes, music and memories that will last a lifetime. Welcome to the 39th Annual Suffolk Peanut Fest!
